Boss Sounds Festival 2010
Boss Sounds is back again from October 16th - 17th at the Cluny in Newcastle. Pama International will play one of their final concerts and will be mixed live by the Mad Professor!
Pama International will be joined by Dave “Double Barrel” Barker on a superb Saturday night bill. Ska’d for Life will be guest DJs ensuring a night of ska, reggae and dub. Pama Intl/Mad Professor will be promoting their new dub album, a reworking of PI’s critically acclaimed Outernational album (**** Mojo, “an album of substance” Q, “seamless merging of old & new” Echoes), titled “Rewired! In Dub”. Dave Barker is famous as part of Jamaican duo, Dave and Ansell Collins who hit the top of the UK and US charts in 1971 with “Double Barrel” and followed it up with “Monkey Spanner”. A superb singer Dave was one of the stars of the Boss Sounds Festival in 2007 when he stole the show and joined Prince Buster on stage for a fantastic finale.
The legendary after show party will again be held at “World Headquarters” and will feature, “Ska’d for Life” DJs and the Pangaea Sound System.
Sunday is roots night with, direct from Jamaica, the Mighty Diamonds. One of the most famous vocal groups of the ’70s and ’80s the Diamonds consist of Donald “Tabby” Shaw (lead vocals) with Fitzroy “Bunny” Simpson and Lloyd “Judge” Ferguson providing harmonies and occaisional lead. Backed up by Sly and Robbie and drum and bass Diamond mania erupted across Jamaica and the across Europe when they signed for Virgin Records in the late ’70s. Timeless classics like, “Right Time” and “I Need A Roof” formed the sound track to the era. There biggest hit was the original version of, “Pass The Dutchie” made famous by Musical Youth, originally entitled, “Pass the Kouchie”. The Diamonds will be joined by the north east greatest rootsy party band, Diddley Squat, legends of the Green Festival a mighty ten piece joyous combo.

After 10 years of working solidly on Pama Intl, time has come for an extended break. It certainly won’t be the last you hear of Pama Intl. For the immediate future we’re out promoting the Pama Intl meet Mad Professor-Rewired! As a proper chance to say thank you for all your support, we’ll be doing a number of shows in Nov and Dec’10, which will see some very special guests appearing in the Pama Intl line up. Dates to be announced very soon, but these and the dates with Mad Professor will be the last Pama Intl perform live, so if you’d like to see the band anytime soon please come along in Oct/Nov/Dec’10. It’d be wonderful to see you!
Not all is gloom as 2011 is set to be busier then ever with our involvement in the relaunch of The London Intl Ska Festival, reformation of The Loafers (featuring Finny & Sean from Pama intl - albeit just for one show), the label stepping up it’s release schedule to an album a month and Sean Flowerdew working on 2 new very exciting writing projects.
We’d like to thank everyone that has been part of Pama Intl, or supported us over the last 10 years and hope to see you very soon.
